Official 2025 AICI Tournament Basketball Rules
Tournament rules and code of conduct for all participants

I. Purpose
The AICI Midwest Tournament aims to unite Muslim communities through recreation, promote physical activity, and encourage Sunnah-based competition for Muslim youth. All skill levels are welcome.
II. Participant Eligibility
- Must be Muslim and meet grade and fee requirements.
- Must meet one: enrolled in Islamic school (full-time/weekend) or active in masjid youth programs.
- Grade divisions: Elementary (1–5), Middle (6–8), High (9–12), Men’s Open (18+ and not pro).
- Early graduates or prep players under 19 (unpaid) are eligible.
- Pro/paid players are ineligible.
- Eligibility disputes are resolved solely by organizers.
III. Coaching Requirements & Responsibilities
- Each team must have 1 coach.
- Coaches ensure eligibility, registration, waiver signing, uniformity, playing time, communication, and conduct.
- No new players after registration. Misrepresentation = disqualification.
- Clean benches post-game.
IV. Equipment
- No jewelry or hats.
- Soft headbands allowed. No hard hair accessories.
- No hard casts/guards. Braces must be padded if altered.
- Boys: shorts cover knees. Girls: full leg coverage.
- Only basketball/athletic shoes allowed. No street shoes.
- All teams must wear matching numbered jerseys.
V. Tournament Rules
- IHSAA rules apply unless modified below.
- Elementary & Middle: Pool play, min. 3 games.
- High School & Men’s Open: Double elimination format.
- Max 10 players/team. Games: 2 halves (15 min each), 3-min halftime.
- 2 timeouts/half. 1 timeout/overtime. No carry-over.
- Ties: 2-min overtime until winner.
- Press rules: No press if lead is 10+ (Elementary), 20+ (Middle/High).
- Referees’ calls are final. Only coaches may speak to refs.
- Bonus: 7th foul. Double bonus: 10th.
- Tech foul = 2 free throws + possession. 2 techs = ejection.
- Players must check in before entering court.
- Coaches stay in designated areas.
- Players may only play on one team and one division.
- Required play time: Elem (8 min), Mid/High (6 min). HS A team: coach decides.
- No-show = 10 min grace, then forfeit.
- Rules may be modified at organizers’ discretion.
- Playoff seeding: points, then tech fouls, then point differential.
- Point system: Win = 3 pts, Loss = 0 pts.
- Techs: Uniform (1), Player trade (1), Misconduct (1).
VI. Code of Conduct
- Islamic behavior required at all times.
- Encourage, involve, respect, and support teammates and opponents.
- Respect refs, play hard, show sportsmanship, and have fun.
Violations: Fighting, foul language, taunting, or damage may result in warnings, ejection, bans, or liability for damages. Organizers’ decisions are final.
